Welcome to our blog, the staff and myself will do our best to not just keep you informed of whats going on at the Kelowna Curling Club, but be educational about our game and the parts that make it up.  Today its the Pro-shop, we are starting to get our new products in, and we are very excited to let you know that BlanacePlus shoes, pants and EQ broom heads will be added to our supplies.  Balance Plus is worn by Team Howard and has a very distinctive slider.  Their take on the slider is to reduce friction on the sole of your sliding shoe by cutting a hole in the slider at the ball of your foot.  This reduces the drag and allowes your foot to have contact around the edges of the foot, but not in the middle.  Balance Plus also brings us a new pant, which has a jean look to them, not the kind of jeans you wear to paint the house, more of a dress jean.  BalancePlus also has the patent on the EQ broom head, which features a layer of foil between the fabric and the foam.  This keeps the moisture out of the foam and reflects the heat back onto the ice. This broom head is so good that Kevin Martin's 2010 Olympic team did not use it because they were destroying the playing surface, most of us won't have that problem.  BalancePlus joins our already awesome lineup of Asham, Ultima, Tournament, Olsen and 8ender.

Sticking to the pro-shop theme.  I spoke the the really nice people out of Ontario that run a company called IceHalo.  Ice Halo is a product designed to protect the melon between your shoulders while on the curling ice.  We are finding more seniors and juniors who are little unsteady under foot wanting to stay concussion free on the ice.  Ice halo comes in the tradional padded headband but is alos coming in hats, touques and faux furs.  The samples of these new products will be in the pro-shop in early October, so keep an eye for them.  Come check out the newest styles in head safety gear.

Curling Clinic season is upon us, we are currently running 3 novice and one intermediate. The novices clinics are for the beginning curler or someone who hasn't curled in years and needs a refresher.  They run the evening of October 7th or 8th from 6 to 9:30 or Saturday the 18th from 9:30 to 1.  Cost is on $35 for each participant and includes your equipment rental and some solid instruction.  If you are new tothe game wear loose warm layered clothing.  For pants, yoga pants, sweats or stretchy golf pants work well.  Layer a sweater or sweatshirt over a cotton t for the upper body and golf or baseball or driving gloves work for the hands.  Ski gloves not so good.  The intermediate clinic is Saturday the 25th of October from 9:30 to 1:00  and will be straight up working on technical skills.  I will be teaching with 2000 World Junior Champ, Brad Kuhn.  We will be breaking your delivery and putting back together, hopefully better then it was.  Cost is $55  Register at the office 250.762.3112 or [email protected]

Thanks to all 40 plus of you that attended the Annual General Meeting tonight.  Busy day in the pro-shop today, not just with the sale during the AGM, but all day.  It made me realise that Kelowna is very much a shopping and curling hub, as we had curlers from Abottsford, Trail, Summerland and Cranbrook all come in to purchase curling supplies at the Club in the last 2 days.  Very good comments on the new selection of shoes and pants, as we have added another line of Asham shoes and BalancePlus shoes as well as the BalancePlus EQ heads and pants.  It is just a reminder that by supporting the Pro-shop at the Kelowna Curling Club you are also supporting yourselves.  ALL profits from the pro-shop go back into revenue and help to keep the league fees down.  League fees actually only make up about 1/3 of the budget, so eat, drink and shop at your Kelowna Curling Club.
