League info sheet 2023.24 season

Monday Commercial League: Is an OPEN** league that plays at 5:15 or 5:45 every Monday from October 9, 2023 to March 25, 2024.  Games are scheduled 8 ends but there is a bell*.  There can be up to 24 teams in this league.   Commercial League curlers are full voting members and have practice privileges.  Teams are put into pools of 6 teams and play a round robin, after 5 games the teams are shuffled and the teams with more points move up.  There is a 3-week playoff at the end of the season that all teams play in.

Monday Men’s League:  Is a Men’s only league that plays at 7:15 or 7:45 every Monday from October 9, 2023 to March 25, 2024.  Games are scheduled 8 ends.  There can be up to 24 teams in this league.   Monday Men’s League curlers are full voting members and have practice privileges. Wednesday Open League:  Is an OPEN** league that plays 5:45 to 7:45, 6:15 to 8:15 or 7:45 to 9:45 every Wednesday from October 11, 2023 to March 27, 2024.  Games are scheduled 8 ends but plays to a BELL*.  There can be up to 24 teams in this league.   Wednesday Open League curlers are full voting members and have practice privileges.  Teams are put into pools of 6 teams and play a round robin, after 5 games the teams are shuffled and the teams with more points move up.  There is a 3-week playoff at the end of the season that all teams play in

Thursday Open League:  Is OPEN** league that plays from 5:45 to 7:45, 6:15 to 8:15 or 7:45 to 9:45 every Thursday from October 5, 2023 to March 28, 2023.  Games are scheduled 8 ends.  The 6:15 draw plays to a BELL*.  There can be up to 36 teams in this league.   Thursday Open League curlers are full voting members and have practice privileges.  Teams are put into pools of 6 teams and play a round robin, after 5 games the teams are shuffled and the teams with more points move up.  There is a 3-week playoff at the end of the season that all teams play in

Friday Fun League :  Is a MIXED OPEN**and must have one of each species on the team.  The league plays from 6:00 to 8:00 or 6:30 to 8:30 every Friday from October 6, 2023 to March 29, 2024.  Games are scheduled 8 ends.  The league plays to a BELL*.  There can be up to 24 teams in this league.   Friday Fun League curlers are full voting members and have practice privileges.  Teams are put into pools of 6 teams and play a round robin, after 5 games the teams are shuffled and the teams with more points move up.  There is a 3-week playoff at the end of the season that all teams play in

Travelers League plays Saturday mornings at 9:30.   It is a rental league that is open to everyone.  Fees are paid directly to the league and the curlers are not members of the Kelowna Curling Club.

Pride League plays Sunday afternoons at 3:00pm. Games are 6 ends and are allowed to rotate players and positions between ends, including bringing in new players. This league play a 10-week fall and a 10-week winter session that need to be signed up for and paid separately. Teams are shuffled throughout the season to provide an opportunity to play with other members.  This league is open to curlers of all gender identities, orientations and allies. Pride league curlers are not members and do not have voting privileges.

Triples League plays Sunday’s at 3:00 and is made up of three players.  Teams play 6 ends and throw 6 rocks per end.  Each player throws the two rocks and positions are rotated every two ends.  So, each player will play each position for 2 ends.  This is a fun, fast paced game and plays a fall and winter session.  Teams may sign up for one or both halves of the season.

Novice Leagues play Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays at 8:15, Fridays at 8:00 or 8:30 or Sunday (Not-so-Novice) at 1:00.  The Novice leagues play 6 ends and are allowed to rotate players and positions between ends, including bringing in new players.  These are the least competitive of all the Kelowna Curling Club leagues and focus on fun and learning.  As players advance in their skill level they move into other leagues.  These leagues play a 10 week fall and a 10-week winter session that need to be signed up for separately.  The teams are in 2 pools and play 9 games and then have 2 x 4 end game playoff on the last week.  Novice league curlers are not members and do not have voting or practice privileges.

The Pan Continental Curling Championships and the BC High School Provincials are taking place and are adjusting the Kelowna Curling Clubs usual schedule, please watch the schedules carefully.

Seniors Daytime plays either Tuesday and Thursday or Wednesday and Friday at 9:30, games are 8 ends.  The senior men’s leagues are divided into quarters (5 weeks) and play approximately 10 games per quarter.  Players enter as individuals and are put on a team for a quarter, then teams are shuffled after each quarter. .   Senior Men daytime curlers are full voting members and have practice privileges, members of the leagues must be 55 plus.  See below for daytime quarters.

Kelowna Afternoon Ladies plays Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00 pm, games are 8 ends.  The KALCC leagues are divided into quarters (5 weeks) and play approximately 10 games per quarter.  Players enter as individuals and are put on a team for a quarter, then teams are shuffled after each quarter.  KLCC  curlers are full voting members and have practice privileges.  On occasion players will share positions and play just one day a week.  See below for daytime quarters.

Wednesday Afternoon Open Plays Wednesdays at 1:00, games 6 ends and are allowed to rotate players and positions between ends, including bringing in new players.  This is the least competitive of all the Kelowna Curling Club days leagues and focus on fun and learning.   This is a team or individual entry league and the league play’s 2 half seasons, fall (Oct.-Dec.) and Winter (Jan.-Mar.).  As players advance in their skill level they move into other leagues.  These leagues play a 10 week fall and a 10-week winter session that need to be signed up for separately. 

Senior Super League plays Mondays at 12:30 pm, games are 8 ends.  This is a team entry league and the league play’s 2 half seasons, fall (Oct.-Dec.) and Winter (Jan.-Mar.)  Members must be a member of another daytime or full-time evening league to join this league.  Curlers must be 50 plus years of age.

Stick League plays Mondays at 10:15/11:30/12:45 pm, games are 2- 6 ends each week.  This is a team or individual entry league and the league play’s 2 half seasons, fall (Oct.-Dec.) and Winter (Jan.-Mar.)  Curlers must be 50 plus years of age.

Super League of Stick Curling plays Wednesdays at 1:00, games are 2- 6 ends each week.  This is a team entry league and the league play’s 2 half seasons, fall (Oct.-Dec.) and Winter (Jan.-Mar.)  Members must be a member of another daytime or full-time evening league to join this league.  Curlers must be 50 plus years of age.  This league is more Competitive than the Monday League.

*BELL Rule: when the bell rings, finish the end you are playing and play one more.  An end is complete when the score has been agreed upon.

 

**OPEN leagues mean that you can have a team made up of all men, all women or anything in-between

 

Full Voting Member means that a member mast cast a vote at the Annual General Meeting or be a member of the Board of Directors

 

Practice Privileges mean a member may come out and practice for free when there is scheduled practice ice.
